Fiverr says humans remain essential as AI impacts hiring

AI News

Freelance services marketplace Fiverr continues to recognize the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on its business.

During the company’s earnings call on Wednesday (February 18), management discussed Fiverr’s ongoing transformation as AI plays a role in hiring and shortens the lifespan of projects.

Mika Kaufman, Fiverr’s founder and CEO, told analysts: “We’re not going to lose jobs as a result.” “This is a more ambitious task. Human talent will still be essential. What will change is where value resides: in context, in judgment, in alignment, in trust, in ownership of results. It will be replaced by lower value transactional work.”

He added that Fiverr is already seeing this movement, even as demand for “higher-value specialized work” accelerates at a double-digit pace. And as jobs become more complex and nuanced, matching talent becomes harder and more relevant to the company’s mission, Kaufman said.

“Hiring decisions will increasingly be influenced and, in some cases, initiated by AI agents. In such an environment, traditional resume-driven recruitment models become inefficient and unreliable. Accurately matching contextual data to historical results will be critical,” he said.

This represents a huge opportunity for Fiverr, he said. Currently, projects over $1,000 represent less than 15% of the market’s total product value, but are growing 23% year over year.

“With focused execution, we are confident that this division will become a significant contributor to our business,” the CEO said.

Kaufman added that the company is prioritizing two categories of high-value work. One is “complexly orchestrated engagement” that requires collaboration between businesses, talent, and Fiverr, and the other is “AI-native jobs that build an AI-enabled economy.”

He gave the example of working with an AI model safety company to provide domain experts who can discover vulnerabilities in underlying models.

Last year, Fiverr embarked on an AI-focused restructuring plan, cutting 250 employees. Kaufman said at the time that the company was already implementing AI in all its operations, including coding, marketing and providing customer care.

“We need to accelerate this approach,” Kaufman said in a letter to staff. “We can and should dream bigger, build faster, and use this moment to build the next Fiverr from the ground up on a modern, clean, AI-centric infrastructure.”

According to the company’s latest financial results, sales rose 3.4% in the same quarter and 10.1% in 2025, compared to 8% in 2024.
