It has been revealed that five short films made using OpenAI's video generation AI “Sora” will be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival. These short films were made using “Sora,” which can generate videos from text prompts, and this will be the first time that a film made using Sora will be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival.
OpenAI is reportedly meeting with Hollywood film studios, media executives and talent agencies to pitch the use of Sora in film production.

Sora is a video generation AI that has not yet been released to the public. Therefore, even for AI filmmakers, making a movie with Sora is a completely new experience. OpenAI has provided early access to Sora to five filmmakers, who were required to agree to the terms of AI filmmaking negotiated with OpenAI. Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Entertainers (SAG-AFTRA) 2023.
One of Sora's short films will be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival. Sundance Nikatou Zius, director of “Nanny,” which won the Grand Jury Prize. Other short films directed by Sola include those by Bonny Discepolo, Ellie Fombi, Reza Sixo Safai and Michaela Ternasky-Holland.

Existing video generation AI can only generate short videos of about 6 to 8 seconds. However, Sora can generate videos up to 60 seconds long. It also has a variety of features, such as unique camera work, subjects that can converse with others, unique background characters, a strong sense of the surrounding situation, the ability to see the same scene from different backgrounds, and the ability to trigger events at different moments. However, it does not have audio that enables conversation, and it is prohibited to generate videos related to sexual acts or violence.
The five short films created using SORA are scheduled to be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival on June 15, 2024 (local time). After the screening, there will also be a talk session with the five film directors who created the films.
