If you use Firefox on a PC with the latest Nvidia RTX graphics cards, you'll be happy to know that your browser can now take advantage of some of Nvidia's video enhancement technologies. Starting with version 126.0, Firefox supports Nvidia's RTX videos. , consists of RTX Video Super Resolution Upscaler and RTX Video HDR.
Nvidia announced RTX video at CES in January 2023. RTX Video Super Resolution can upscale low-resolution videos to cleaner, sharper images by analyzing the video and using deep learning to predict the final result. RTX Video HDR can process standard dynamic range video, run it through a neural network, and add high dynamic range (HDR) information for even more visibility, detail, brightness, and more.
Nvidia says 90% of all videos online are 1080p SDR or lower, and RTX video makes it easy to provide users with “remastered” versions.
Note that Firefox is not the first browser to embrace RTX video. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge already support video enhancement tools. Third party apps such as VLC can also benefit from his RTX videos on compatible systems.
Here's how to enable RTX video on your Windows computer.
- Update to the latest RTX Game Ready, Studio, or Enterprise drivers.
- Enable Windows HDR Settings > Display > HDR (Make sure your display supports high dynamic range, or HDR10).
- go to Nvidia Control Panel > Adjusting Video Image Settings > RTX Video Enhancement.
- Toggle on “”super resolution” and “high dynamic range“option.
RTX video tools can be used on computers with RTX graphics cards, regardless of generation. RTX video supports all RTX GPUs up to the original RTX 2000 series.
