Financial Advisor James Gerard Says Customers Love Digital Clones of Artificial Intelligence

Applications of AI

Some examples may seem harmless, like Harrison Ford rejuvenated in the opening scene of the recently released movie, indiana jones and the dial of fateor Elvis Presley rises from the dead to perform America’s Got Talent, This technology is often associated with more harmful applications.

Many female celebrities have been victims of deepfake porn. In deepfake porn, your likeness is put into a video without your consent. Meanwhile, scammers recently created a deepfake of CBA chief executive Matt Kamin to contact viewers and urge them to make big money investing in cryptocurrencies.

In May, deepfake images of an explosion near the Pentagon went viral. Although quickly debunked, the image sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 85 points in four minutes.

The software that creates deepfakes identifies how subjects such as human faces and expressions (or explosions in the case of the Pentagon) work and uses that knowledge to create new realistic versions of deepfakes. are taught or trained to create subjects.

Potential uses for deepfakes, and society’s inability to detect them, have raised concerns among market watchers, politicians, and tech experts. But for Gerard, the technology also represents a commercial opportunity.

To create a deepfake, he had to record a high-definition video of himself reading a 50-minute dialogue script (originally presented by David Attenborough) so the technology could learn his voice and facial movements. had.

To do so, he leveraged technology from platform provider Dash Technology Group.

“Now my staff can type in a script about the RBA’s interest rate decision, hit ‘generate’ and five minutes later they have a video of me talking,” says Gerard. “You can’t tell it’s not me talking in the video. It looks so real.”

As a result, he says, he can send more client communications faster with less effort.

Other AI utilization

Aside from general videos, Gerrard says the technology can also be used to streamline portfolio reviews for clients.

The The platform provider is connected to FinancialAdvisor.com.au’s customer relationship management platform and further linked to AI video tools.

“I could do a portfolio review for a client and then create a deepfake video of me talking about some of the stocks that went up or down during that particular time period and send that along with the review report. We can,” he says.

Gerrard said it’s only been piloted with a “small number” of customers so far, and those who received the deepfake video were told it was generated by an AI.

“The feedback has been great. They love it,” he says.

Stock selection by AI is unnecessary

Gerrard said he would be happy for an AI to clone him, but he wouldn’t let the AI pick his stock. He is skeptical of its ability to replace the human mind and of financial advisors’ ability to empathize and understand their clients’ unique personal circumstances.

But he believes AI could play a role in the early stages of human economic activity.

For example, a financial advice website with ChatGPT-style software running in the background could direct potential clients to the most appropriate advisor for their specific needs, and pass all relevant details to that advisor to communicate with the client. can cooperate.

Alternatively, we may offer advice on basic portfolios. After the customer fills out a risk questionnaire, the AI can technically direct the customer to the appropriate allocation of bonds, stocks and real estate.

“But a lot of the time, that’s not something an AI engine can advise you on. You need someone to give you bespoke advice,” says Gerrard.
