Figma CEO says he prefers hiring young people because they are AI natives

AI For Business

Many young people are concerned about AI encroaching on the entry-level job market.

But Dylan Field, the 34-year-old billionaire CEO of Figma, says AI gives young people an advantage in the hiring process.

In a recent appearance on In Good Company, a podcast produced by Norges Bank Investment Management, Field said the impact of AI on jobs is a “significant” discussion currently occurring in the software industry.

“Does AI mean we should hire senior, mid-career, or junior employees, or will all jobs disappear because AI will replace everything?” asked Field. “I’ve heard that last one many times and it hasn’t happened yet. Everybody says that. They keep hiring.”

Field said younger professionals have an advantage because they tend to have a better understanding of AI, an increasingly important skill.

“Actually, my bias is very much against young people, and I think young people are AI natives, just as older people have to learn,” Field said.

He said Figma, which provides design products and services and competes directly with Adobe, has always hired people of various age groups, but an understanding and passion for AI will be essential going forward.

“First of all, I think it’s important that people come in knowing that we’re going full steam ahead into the AI era,” Field said. “So if you have a bias against AI, that’s a great conversation for us to have at the dinner table, but we’re very focused on building something that’s definitely ready for this AI era.”

Young professionals are overcoming a labor market stalled by unemployment. And employment growth has been uneven. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its final employment report for 2025 in December, which economists said showed the job market remains stagnant.

The rise of AI has further increased that instability. Many companies these days are betting that AI will be able to do many of the jobs for entry-level employees, and economists say that could cause companies to pause hiring young professionals.

But Field doesn’t share that outlook.

In an October 2025 appearance on Lenny’s Podcast, Field said he doesn’t think AI will ever take away human jobs.
