The video realistically shows a raccoon breaking into a liquor store, drinking alcohol and passing out on the bathroom floor.
While the story itself is true, the video was generated by artificial intelligence.
In early December 2025, a video purportedly showing legitimate footage of a raccoon breaking into a liquor store, drinking alcohol, and then passing out on the bathroom floor went viral.

While this story is true, the video above was generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
”Yes, this is an AI-generated video, not our store or a raccoon,” said spokesperson Pat Cain. Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control; He oversees a state-run liquor store in Ashland that was the target of a drunken raid by a raccoon.
Therefore, we have rated this video as fake.
Kane said in an email that a real raccoon entered the store during after-hours on Nov. 28 and “impacted the security system,” causing a power outage alert to be issued by the security company. The next morning, the store manager found the “Black Friday Bandit” passed out on the floor, drunk. Cain said the incident damaged 14 bottles of spirits worth about $250.
The Hanover County Animal Care and Shelter in Virginia, the local government's official animal control department, released real images of the raccoon after the rampage. (The county also sells goods)
Reputable news stations also reported on the legal surveillance video of the raccoon rampage, which was first released by Virginia television station ABC 8 News. Snopes independently verified these videos through Kane, who sent the clips via email.
Identify the AI behind your video
As evidenced, real surveillance video is much grainier than AI-generated video (as surveillance videos usually are).
There are some inconsistencies in fake videos that clearly show the use of artificial intelligence. When zoomed in, the researchers found that the labels on the liquor bottles blurred and wobbled together as the video played, providing evidence that the video was AI-generated. The label was also meaningless.
Additionally, within the AI video, a shelf of liquor bottles appears in the background of the first (fake) daytime clip (before the AI video jumps to the raccoon in the dark), but is mysteriously replaced by an emergency exit sign in the second clip.

Examples that indicate the video was generated by AI, such as nonsensical labels or inconsistent backgrounds. (Facebook user Animal Life)
