Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in retaliation for Israel’s attack on a fuel facility in Tehran claimed It is believed that the attack was on Israel’s Haifa oil refinery.
Two videos are currently circulating that claim to show footage of the attack. One is old. The other is generated by AI.
Probably Yemen
The first video shows a large factory on fire, with smoke billowing into the sky. share videouser X wrote, “Iran is violently attacking the Bazan Group’s power plant in Haifa, Israel.”

A reverse search for keyframes in the video found a screenshot of an Instagram post from May 7, 2025. OSINT Analyst Tal Hagin The screenshot is identical to the viral video.
Hagin said the video showed the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa, Yemen. I looked for the Instagram post, but it had been deleted. But we were able to find archive of the post.
I also found a report by BBC and iran international Starting on May 6, 2025, the Iranian-backed Houthis attacked Israel’s main airport, and the Israeli military said it had attacked Yemen’s Sanaa international airport and power plant with airstrikes, completely disabling it.
Whether or not this video actually shows an attack on Yemen, it clearly predates the ongoing war.
AI generated video
The second video shows a missile hitting an industrial plant, followed by a huge explosion. X user shared a video The caption read: “Breaking news: Haifa refinery completely destroyed.”

I noticed that the fire after the explosion was shiny and evenly rising towards the sky. This suggested that it may have been generated by AI.
Additionally, we tested the video with the AI detection tool Hive Moderation, which concluded that the video was likely generated by AI with a score of 81.7 percent.

Therefore, we concluded that neither video shows an attack on an Israeli oil refinery in Haifa.
