
Exo today announced the launch of FDA-cleared heart and lung AI applications for its Iris handheld ultrasound device.
The company currently has FDA approval for five different uses for Iris: heart, lung, bladder, hip, and thyroid. By 2025, that number is expected to double.
Iris delivers high-performance medical imaging at a fraction of the size and cost of cart-based ultrasound. The system is built on his Exo's advanced silicone technology and fits in a caregiver's pocket. This gives doctors, nurses, paramedics, and clinicians immediate answers in emergency, acute care, outpatient, and home settings.

The company says the introduction of the latest Iris capabilities simplifies the process of acquiring and interpreting images specific to the heart and lungs. This allows caregivers, especially in rural and under-resourced settings, to quickly diagnose and treat regardless of location.

The company said it trains its AI application on more than 100,000 images from POCUS trials in real-world environments. Exo says its AI recognizes landmarks inside the body even in less-than-perfect scans, helping healthcare professionals make informed decisions without using lab-quality ultrasound. Exo's Lung AI reliably identifies the presence of B-lines with a quick scan. This allows users to quickly assess a patient's pulmonary edema or fluid in the lungs.
