Jakarta (Antara) –
Ensuring ethical and responsible applications of artificial intelligence (AI) requires a policy, platform and talent (3P) approach, said Deputy Communications and Information Minister Nezar Patria.
“The Policy emphasises the importance of the elements of safety, justice and inclusiveness,” the minister said, according to a press statement issued by the ministry on Friday.
According to him, “platform” refers to the need to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem through collaboration between platforms.
Meanwhile, the 'people' aspect focuses on empowering communities through capacity building, he added.
He made the announcement during a keynote speech at the Indonesia AI Conference 2024 in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Patria said Indonesia does not yet have specific regulations on the application of AI, but that existing general and sectoral regulations currently ensure legal certainty regarding AI.
The regulations he referred to include Act No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Act) and its amending provisions, Act No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Act), and the ministry's circular on AI ethics.
The Vice Minister asserted that the use of AI in cloud computing will help accelerate research, foster creativity, improve customer service, and increase productivity and efficiency in data analysis.
“Cloud technology, AI, the Internet of Things (IoT) and (data) analytics are essential and will be the foundation of any digital strategy,” he said.
For example, AI has revolutionized diagnosis in the medical sector, expanded telemedicine capabilities, and improved fraud prevention and risk management in the financial sector, he explained.
He said AI governance needs to be based on knowledge transfer so that Indonesia and other developing countries can actively participate in the global AI supply chain, rather than just being users.
