The Emory AI team has launched a new Responsible AI (RAI) website to provide faculty, students, and medical teams with a clear, accessible hub for guidance on the safe, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence across our institutions.
The site represents a major milestone in the university’s company-wide responsible AI initiative. This is a multi-year initiative led by Emory AI Group with input from the Responsible AI Executive Governance Committee and partners at Emory University and Emory Healthcare.
Designed to be a central resource for the Emory community, the RAI website will provide high-level guidance rooted in Emory’s mission and principles and develop specific recommendations for a variety of user groups, including clinicians, researchers, students, and communicators. Project leaders gathered extensive feedback from campus stakeholders as the site took shape.
University-wide initiatives
This launch underscores Emory’s broader commitment to ensuring emerging AI technologies are used thoughtfully and transparently in ways that support academic excellence, patient care, operational effectiveness, and organizational integrity.
“In recent years, Emory has significantly expanded our AI efforts through initiatives such as AI.Humanity, the AI Learning Center, and the Emory Empathetic AI for Health Institute,” said Nabile Safdar, Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. “We have also established a system-wide governance framework that balances innovation with safety and ethics.”
“We created this site as a shared resource for our community, leveraging the experience and expertise of leaders who are pioneering the use of AI at Emory University and Emory Healthcare,” Safdar added.
Campus leaders emphasize that the responsible use of AI is essential not only to protect data privacy and prevent unintended harm, but also to enable faculty, students, and staff to work effectively with new technology.

These topic areas reflect needs identified in Emory’s AI governance conversations and ongoing training efforts, including the university’s series of Responsible AI Webinars. In this webinar, faculty explored how AI can support communication, research, and clinical operations without compromising accuracy, fairness, and trust.
“We believe this site will be a starting point for Emory employees who want clarity on how to use AI tools responsibly,” said Melissa Souza, director of data and AI strategy. “As the landscape of AI capabilities changes, so too does our understanding of what constitutes responsible AI. Therefore, this site must evolve as well. We encourage Emory students, faculty, researchers, health care providers, clinicians, and staff to raise important issues where guidance may be needed, clarified, or updated.”
