ElevenLabs announces AI Music Generator for Commercial use

Applications of AI

AI audio company ElevenLabs has announced a new AI Music Generation model, claiming it has been cleared for commercial use.

This illustrates the company's move beyond its established expertise on textbooks and speech technology and conversation bots, expanding into the field of music generation.

Since its founding three years ago, ElevenLabs has focused primarily on AI tools that convert text to speech, and AI tools that develop systems for multilingual speech translation.

With the launch of the AI Music model announced on BlogPost on the ElevenLabs website, the company is looking to take advantage of the rapidly growing market of music creation and AI innovation.

As part of the presentation, ElevenLabs presented samples of music generated by AI.

One such sample features a synthetic speech rap about the ascent from a humble beginning, Dr. It reflects the experiences of iconic hip-hop artists such as Dre and Kendrick Lamar.

The creation of such music demonstrates the capabilities of AI, but also raises concerns about the ethical implications of emulating the living experiences of real-world artists.

These concerns come from growing scrutiny about the role of AI in music production.

Last year, Startups Suno and Udio faced a lawsuit by the American Recording Industry Association (RIAA) and accused them of using copyrighted music without permission to train models.

Since then, companies have been trying to reach key record labels and licensing agreements.

In response to concerns about the use of copyrighted materials, ElevenLabs has announced a partnership with Merlin Network and Kobalt Music Group, two digital platforms that work with independent musicians.

These transactions provide 11 agreements with the right to use certain materials for AI training, ensuring that the company has the necessary permissions.

Merlin Network, representing famous artists such as Adele, Nirvana, Mitski and Kobalt, has worked with Beck, Bon Iver, Children's Gambino and others to ensure that clients can opt-in to use AI.

Kobalt's representatives pointed out that artists are supporting the acquisition of new revenue opportunities through arrangements and offering revenue sharing, protection against misuse, and conditions comparable to other industry transactions.

With the rise of AI in music production, ElevenLabs' model is positioned to lead the next wave of music innovation, ensuring compliance with copyright laws and fair compensation for artists.
