No official record

A keyword search for General Upendra Dwivedi’s purported remarks on Pakistan and the ‘Peace Commission’ yielded no reliable media coverage. No such statement has been posted on the Indian Army’s official social media handles either.

original video

A reverse image search for keyframes of the viral clip led me to ANI’s YouTube video featuring a live streaming of the Army chief’s speech at a book launch event in New Delhi on January 22, 2026. The video showed General Dwivedi in the same background as the viral clip.

We skimmed his speech and couldn’t find him saying anything like that.

Republic World’s livestream of the same event, whose watermark can be seen in the viral video, made no such statement.

Tampering detected

If you compare it with the original stream, you will notice that the audio does not match the actual audio. After reviewing Hive Moderation videos, we concluded that the media likely (99.8%) contains AI-generated or deepfake content. Similarly, Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector labeled this voice as a possible deepfake.

Official explanation

The Indian government’s PIB fact-checking arm has clarified that General Upendra Dwivedi never made such a statement.

Notably, a White House statement said that Donald Trump had invited India to join the Peace Commission initiative, but India did not attend its launch at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the viral video in which Army Chief of Staff Upendra Dwivedi claims to have opposed Pakistan’s inclusion in President Trump’s ‘Peace Commission’ is fake and digitally manipulated.
