eBay Acquires AI-Powered Product Certification Company Certilogo

eBay today announced it has completed its acquisition of Certilogo, an AI-powered apparel and fashion digital identity and authentication company. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The Milan-based company will continue to be led by CEO Michele Cascucci.

Certilogo uses digital technology to give brands control over the lifecycle of their clothing, while giving consumers a way to verify authenticity and access trusted information about their items. The eBay acquisition shows that eBay is looking to strengthen its certification of used fashion on the market.

When eBay first announced the acquisition in May, the company said it would be a key investment in its growing and popular fashion category. The company said the acquisition will solidify eBay as a trusted place to shop for the apparel and fashion you love. eBay also said it can provide customers with greater confidence by allowing them to make more sustainable purchasing choices.

This latest acquisition comes as eBay seeks to strengthen its authentication and fraud detection capabilities over the past few years. In 2021, eBay acquired Sneaker Con Digital’s certification business, which verifies the authenticity of high-value footwear. The company acquired AI-powered fraud detection company 3PM Shield in February.
