Dubai Airports said its AI-powered tool has helped the operator of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) predict how spare parts will be used in the future.
The company on Wednesday announced the results of its material requirements planning (MRP) tool, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning, adding that the tool has “transformed our behind-the-scenes supply management operations.”
“This innovative approach has improved service levels, streamlined inventory management and increased operational efficiency across the organisation, contributing to a superior experience for airport users,” Dubai Airports said.
“Over the past year, the MRP tool has helped our inventory team predict future spare parts consumption. With parts on hand, the team can execute engineering work orders faster, resulting in faster maintenance response and less disruption for airport users.”
The MRP tool has improved forecast accuracy by 30 percent, enabling precise inventory planning and reducing excess inventory by 12 percent. “This optimization improves capital utilization and ensures resources are available when needed,” the company added.
Emmanuel Augustin, vice president of supply management at Dubai Airports, said: “We are using AI and real-time data to streamline inventory management, increase efficiency and improve the service we provide to our key customers – both our internal business units and the millions of guests who pass through the airport.”
The airport operator said improved forecasting has led to a 24% increase in service levels, faster response times for facility maintenance and an improved overall guest experience.
“By reducing obsolete work orders by 82 percent, maintenance work is expedited, downtime is minimised and high standards of airport operations are maintained,” it added.
“Automating the inventory ordering process has increased efficiency by 400%, seamlessly integrated purchase requisition creation, and significantly reduced manual workload. The MRP tool ensures compliance with new regulations, maintaining the airport's commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance.”
