JCCC’s English Department courses help students become better communicators, professional writers, and general readers. These qualities apply to all professions. Starting this fall, we are introducing a new English course for local professionals who want to extend their writing skills beyond the basics.
Convenient course for adults
Clear, concise and professional communication is the key to success in most careers. In fact, companies such as Google and Facebook place more emphasis on these “soft skills” than just “hard skills” such as technical knowledge and training.
Many of JCCC’s English courses meet a variety of needs to help working professionals strengthen or update their skills and qualifications. For greater flexibility, we offer new English courses for students to master highly sought-after skills such as targeted writing strategies and writing for emerging industry software.
As an added benefit, students may apply to the JCCC as a “non-degree student” indicating that they wish to enroll in classes for personal or professional benefit only. Non-degree students take JCCC courses to improve their skills without pursuing a degree or attending full-time college.
Introduction to how to write a grant
One of these new courses, Introduction to Grant Writing, introduces students who have never written a grant proposal to the genre, which combines storytelling and technical writing.
Successful grant makers have skills ranging from effective written communication and research to project design and management. JCCC courses cover these and other subjects. This course is accredited by the Grants Professional Certification Institute (GPCI) and helps students prepare for her GPCI certification.
Special Topic: ChatGPT and the Future of Writing
Another new English course, ChatGPT and the Future of Writing, explores the incredible rapid emergence of new AI-based writing technologies that promise to revolutionize the workforce.
Through this course, students will accomplish several goals, including mastering the proper use of AI writing technology through hands-on assignments. Students also identify AI-based uses in the history of writing and computing technologies while tackling cutting-edge ethical, legal, philosophical, and political issues.
