Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has claimed that his party will effectively utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of 'Vision India: AI Summit' in Hyderabad, he said the party organizes such summits in major cities to create awareness among youth about the use of technology in governance and the future transformation driven by technology.

Replying to a question on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being carried out by the Election Commission, he claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party government was trying to delete around 3 billion votes in Uttar Pradesh through the SIR process. Improper use of technology resulted in the names of genuine voters being removed.

He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of misusing the SIR for electoral gains and said the exercise was only aimed at helping the Bharatiya Janata Party win elections in states like Uttar Pradesh. “This is not SIR. This is NRC in disguise,” he asserted, claiming that the government cannot implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) directly and is instead using SIR.

Akhilesh Yadav emphasized the need to effectively utilize AI technology in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure development, urbanization, improvement of urban public facilities, traffic management, and healthcare.

Expressing concern over the rise in cyber crimes, he said Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest number of cyber crimes in the country. He warned about the circulation of AI-generated fake videos on social media, and stressed the urgent need to deploy AI itself to curb these threats. “Technology should benefit everyone,” he said.
