X is enforcing bans and possible permanent suspensions for users who posted AI videos of “armed conflict” during the current war with Iran.
On Tuesday, Nikita Bea, the app’s head of product, posted an announcement regarding posts that used AI to create false depictions of combat situations. In the days following the initial attack, X was flooded with users creating false depictions of the battle, confusing those following the news online about what was really happening and what was false.
“Today, we are revising our Creator Revenue Sharing Policy to maintain the authenticity of content on Timeline and prevent tampering with our programs,” Beer said. “During wartime, it’s important that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technology, it’s easy to create content that can mislead people.”
He added, “Going forward, users who post AI-generated videos of armed conflict without additional disclosure that they were AI-generated will be suspended from creator revenue sharing for 90 days. Any subsequent violation will result in a permanent suspension from the program. This will be reported to us in posts with community notes or if the content includes metadata (or other signals) from generated AI tools.”
In a video released early Saturday, President Trump declared that U.S. forces were engaged in large-scale combat operations in Iran and vowed to remove anyone who would “endanger” Iran and its allies.
“A short while ago, the U.S. military began a major combat operation in Iran,” President Trump said in a video message published on Truth Social Friday night. “Our objective is to protect the American people by eliminating the immediate threat from the Iranian regime, which is an evil group of very tough and scary people.”
“Its menacing activities directly endanger the United States, our military, our bases overseas, and our allies around the world. For 47 years, the Iranian regime has chanted ‘death to America’ and waged an endless campaign of bloodshed and mass murder, targeting the United States, our military, and innocent people in many countries.”
