OpenAI and Google may have been in the AI spotlight last week, but now it's Microsoft's turn.
The annual Microsoft Build developer conference keynote begins Tuesday at 12pm ET, with CEO Satya Nadella scheduled to announce Microsoft's latest generative AI products.
The technology is expected to be a major theme, as it was when Microsoft held a press event on Monday to announce its new Copilot+ PC lineup, including the AI-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. With yesterday's focus on hardware, the company said Tuesday's keynote should allow him plenty of airtime to focus on AI software and features.
Copilot is an AI assistant that is tightly integrated with the company's Microsoft 365 software suite and competes with Google's Gemini AI for Google Workspace. Google showed off a lot about its latest model last week, including an impressive Project Astra AI agent prototype, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Microsoft show off some rival demos.
Microsoft also invested billions in OpenAI, which helped power its “new Bing” search product. OpenAI's latest GPT-4o AI model is already available in preview with text and image capabilities for Microsoft's Azure AI cloud customers, so we might hear an update on this partnership.
