Common Sense Media, Openai Partner for Free AI Training Courses for Educators

Common Sense Media is a non-profit provider of family entertainment and technology recommendations, and AI research and development company Openai has collaborated to create a free AI training course. According to a news release, “ChatGpt Foundations for K-12 Educators for K-12 Educators” is designed to allow teachers to understand and responsibly implement the fundamentals of artificial intelligence in their classroom work. The course is the first output of an extensive partnership released by the two organizations in January, focusing on AI guidelines and education for parents, educators and youth.

The nine-hour lesson course covers topics such as AI fundamentals, data privacy, ethical usage guidelines, student safety, and ideas on how to incorporate AI into teacher work. Pilots in almost a dozen school districts have produced “promising early results,” the company reported.

“Schools across the country are working on new opportunities and challenges as AI re-changes education, indicating that seven in 10 students are already using tools like ChatGPT in their studies.” “This course is taking a proactive approach to supporting and educating teachers on the frontline and preparing this transformation.”

“We are in the early stages of AI adoption in the K-12, where educators, technicians and organizations (the technology) work together to enable teachers and improve students' learning outcomes. “Our top priority is to equip educators with resources to use OpenAI tools thoughtfully, and set classroom standards for responsible use. This course will work with trusted organizations like common sense to provide this important foundation.”
