In July 2024, Clarivate launched the Academic AI Advisory Board, establishing a foundation for engaging academic leaders on the future of AI in research and education. We are deepening this collaboration through new and engaged forums as we continue to accelerate AI innovation across our academia and government portfolios, including the introduction of new solutions such as Clarivate Nexus. The group brings together library and academic experts from institutions around the world to provide practical guidance that will shape the next generation of academic AI tools and capabilities.

Why create the Academic AI Working Group?

As the capabilities of AI advance, the academic community will play a critical role in ensuring that these technologies are compatible with principles of trust, focus on what truly matters to the community, and responsible innovation. The Academic AI Working Group is designed to leverage its expertise directly into product development.

Members provide practical, actionable insights on user experience, responsible AI guardrails, and new AI platform capabilities to ensure enhancements are grounded in real-world workflows and consistently benefit users across Clarivate solutions for academia. The purpose is clear. Our goal is to ensure that academic AI solutions deliver meaningful value, support robust adoption, and reflect the needs of the communities they serve.

Who will participate?

To ensure broad and representative input, the Academic AI Working Group includes:

  • Up to 15 experts from different geographies, roles, and institution types
  • Monthly virtual meetings starting April 2026
  • 2 years of continued involvement and contribution

The group will work in parallel with community-led initiatives such as ELUNA, IGeLU, and IUG to strengthen collaboration across the sector.

Difference between Academic AI Working Group and Academic AI Advisory Committee

Both the Academic AI Working Group and the Academia AI Advisory Council play essential and complementary roles in shaping the direction of Academic AI. The Academic AI Working Group focuses on the design, implementation, and product experience of AI solutions, providing ongoing hands-on collaboration that generates detailed, practical input, including how AI features work within the user experience. In contrast, the Advisory Board focuses on long-term strategy and the broader future of academic AI, providing high-level conceptual guidance through regular discussion-based consultations. Together, these ensure that our approach is rooted in real-world workflows while aligning with forward-looking strategic direction.

How to participate

We are currently seeking potential members who are actively working in areas such as academic AI, user experience, digital strategy, and responsible AI frameworks. If you think you would be a strong contributor, please contact academiaai@clarivate.com by March 4th.

Our goal is to build a diverse, global group that represents all academic needs and perspectives.

The Academic AI Working Group is designed to provide real value to participants. Members will gain early visibility into upcoming AI features and have the opportunity to explore and test new features before they are widely released. It’s also an opportunity to connect with colleagues from institutions around the world, share experiences, and build relationships that support your continued professional growth. Most importantly, participants will be directly involved in shaping the tools that students, researchers, and librarians rely on every day, ensuring that these solutions reflect real-world needs and have a meaningful impact on academic workflows.
