(Yicai) July 30 — Shengshu AI, a Chinese company developing generative artificial intelligence technology, has made its tool for converting text and images into video generally available to the global public, joining other Chinese startups offering products to rival OpenAI's Sora.
Available on Vidu.studio, Vidu can generate 5- or 8-second videos in 1080 pixel quality from text or image content in Chinese and English.
Shengshu AI was founded in Beijing in March last year by a team from the Tsinghua University AI Industry Research Institute. A month later, Shengshu AI and Tsinghua University jointly launched Vidu.
Tang Jiayu, co-founder and CEO of Shengshu AI, demonstrated Vidu's applications in the animation, comics and gaming sectors at the four-day China Joy that ended yesterday.
Vidu was used in the production of “The Last Robot”, the first 3D short animated film made with AI technology, as well as in the digital restoration of cultural heritage such as the murals of Yongle Palace in Ruicheng City, Shanxi Province, southwest China.
Another Chinese AI startup that recently launched a video generation tool is Zhipu AI. Founded in June 2019, Zhipu AI emerged from the Knowledge Engineering Group at the School of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University. The startup has gradually developed an AI model and product matrix that covers text, code, images, and customized prompts.
On June 26, Zhipu AI CEO Zhang Peng announced that the company's AI-powered video generation tool, “Ying,” is now available on ChatGLM's mobile app and mini-programs, as well as on computers. Ying can generate six-second clips from text and photos in 30 seconds.
Ying's application programming interface is now available on Bigmodel.cn, a large-scale language model platform for enterprises and developers.
