The Model Chip Ecosystem Innovation Alliance aims to promote collaboration by inviting major Chinese AI chip producers and LLM developers.
Beijing: Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies have declared two new industrial alliances with the aim of reducing reliance on foreign technologies by developing a domestic ecosystem. They further aim to address US export restrictions on advanced Nvidia chipsets. These announcements were strategically timed to coincide with the three-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai.
The conference also featured a variety of new products, including the AI computing system by Huawei. This is not only a professional competes with Nvidia's top tier solutions, but it is a consumer-friendly product such as several types of digital AI glasses. The Model Chip Ecosystem Innovation Alliance aims to bring together major Chinese AI chip producers and LLM developers to promote collaboration.
“This is an innovative ecosystem that connects the complete technology chain from chips to models and infrastructure,” said Zhao Lidong, CEO of Enflame (one of the participating chip makers).
Other major producers' stances
Other major graphics processing units producers to join the alliance include Huawei, Biren, and Moore Threads. These have been highly conflicted with US sanctions to block the Alliance from purchasing advanced technologies announced by LLM developer Stepfun. Another alliance, the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce, said, “We have also set up an AI committee aimed at promoting deep integration of AI technology and industrial transformation.
Other US-approved participants, such as Sensetime, are challenging LLMS from facial recognition technology. Others are Stepfun and another LLM developer Minimax, as well as Chipmakers Metax and Iluvatar Corex.
According to US research firm Semianalysis, highlights about the conference and most talked about products are that the latest 910C chip 384 outperforms NVIDIA's GB200 NVL72 with several metrics, leaving the CloudMatrix 384 by Huawei.
