China AI Agent Security Guidelines: Best Practices and Don’ts – News and Statistics

A department of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced a series of recommendations and prohibitions for users of widely adopted artificial intelligence agents. The guidance, detailed by the National Vulnerability Database, was developed with input from AI agent providers, cybersecurity companies, and vulnerability platform operators.

This advisory outlines six specific actions users should take. This includes using only the latest official software versions, reducing your system’s exposure to the internet, and limiting permissions to only what you need. We also recommend that users be wary of third-party skill markets, protect against browser hijacking, and constantly monitor software patches.

On the contrary, the guidelines warn against some activities. These prohibitions include using outdated or unofficial software versions, making your AI Agent instance accessible over the open internet, and activating an administrator account during setup. The advisory also warns against installing skill packs that require passwords, accessing unverified websites, and disabling comprehensive log auditing features.

Additional technical instructions have been provided for restricting internet connectivity, inspecting files, and removing software. The notice points out certain use cases that could be problematic, such as linking an AI agent to a messaging application, which could potentially provide broad access to system files.
