Artificial intelligence has been in development for years, but recent advances in generative AI such as ChatGPT are accelerating the technology.
This represents a significant improvement in business and service efficiency.

However, there are major reliability issues that need to be resolved.
Raymond Patterson, professor of business technology management and area chair at the Huskane School of Business at the University of Calgary, says getting information through apps remains a major problem. He said this should force any company to pause before using the technology.

“Generative AI is at peak hype right now, and it may get even more hyped,” Patterson said. “Please be careful not to use this to make money. It should be more effective.”
He said it can be viewed like a Google search, providing users with a large list of relevant and unrelated links. ChatGPT then organizes those links into paragraphs. What’s missing from this equation is the experience of making content decisions.

The potential of AI in the business sector is enormous.

AI can help troubleshoot technical issues and help the legal system sift through decades of precedents. This will boost the energy sector by seeking efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and alerting companies to equipment problems. Janssen sees the biggest impact in the healthcare sector. He says it could be a multi-billion dollar healthcare sector by 2030 and a generational leap in services and care.
“Unlike other industries, we can transform healthcare,” he said. “Around the world, in Canada and North America, if something doesn’t change, the system will collapse. “With applications built around machine learning, we can now have tools that empower clinicians to help them make better decisions.”

He said this would improve diagnosis and treatment planning, with hundreds of other potential applications within the system.
However, there are some major hurdles that need to be addressed in order for this transformation to take place responsibly. Improving system security to prevent outside manipulation and interference is at the forefront, but it is also important to design systems to eliminate data bias.
