Character.ai announced this week a new suite of new multimodal and multimedia features to interact with and create characters.
These extensions include the Avatarfx video generation model, which allows you to create up to five videos per day. Users upload photos that serve as the basis for video clips, select audio, and write character dialogue.
Users can also turn these videos into scenes and streams. This allows users to create videos featuring characters and share them in their new social feeds.
Experts criticized these developments, saying Character.ai's multimedia products are increasing the chances of these products being abused.
TechCrunch wrote, “The character has a track record of abuse on the platform. The parents filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming that the chatbot tried to persuade their children to self-harm, kill themselves, or kill their parents.
The characters respond that each video is visible, but bad actors can avoid this protection. “Our goal is to provide everyone with an attractive space that promotes creativity while maintaining a safe environment.” Chariture.ai said in a blog post.
