Chainaracy brings AI-powered investigation tools to compliance teams
The announcement was made at the company’s annual Lynx conference, with CEO Jonathan Levine positioning the development as a direct response to criminals who are already using AI to increase fraud, theft, and money laundering. Chainalysis said it has examined billions of transactions and supported more than 10 million investigations over more than a decade. The company says its agents are built on top of datasets, rather than layered on top of them.
Until now, extracting meaningful intelligence from the Chainaracy platform required specialized training. The new agent is designed to give executives, compliance personnel, and investigators access to the same underlying data and organizational knowledge without requiring deep technical expertise.
The company has drawn a hard line between its approach and the wide range of AI agent products flooding the market. Levin argued that without a validated, domain-specific data layer behind it, an AI agent becomes a language model that generates inferences. Chainalysis positions its dataset, which is used by governments, financial institutions, and crypto businesses and has been ruled admissible in courts, to make the output of its agents defensible.
Four principles govern how agents are constructed. The company claims that data quality comes first, and that more powerful models make accurate underlying data more important, not less. Context and reasoning follows, leveraging Chainaracy’s accumulated expertise across investigation types and compliance obligations.
Third, the company incorporates auditable, deterministic workflows, so that identical inputs produce identical outputs in high-stakes decisions. Finally, humans can control what is automated and what level of independence they maintain.
The company does not sell agents to replace analysts. This design keeps human decision makers on top of regulated, high-stakes tasks and allows agents to quickly handle enrichment, escalation, and report generation.
Initial use cases already in development include multi-chain investigation workflows that compress days of work into minutes, automated alert enrichment that captures context from across the platform before escalating or ignoring compliance flags, and on-demand structured intelligence reporting. The team also used the agent to build custom web applications for investigation or compliance workflows to perform time-based transaction identification across large datasets.
Open source intelligence collection is also an active use case, where agents collect and organize OSINT to supplement ongoing investigations. The company also described a setup in which a team of agents monitors on-chain activity, surfaces leads, and hands off actions to humans.
