This effort is powered by Cassava's AI-enabled data centers and supporting infrastructure.
Gebeya Dala is positioned to lower the technological barriers to participation in the digital economy. Rather than targeting professional developers or trained artists, the platform is designed for Africa's many young people and other aspiring creators without formal technical skills. The platform will deploy two core modules at launch. One is an AI-powered app builder that allows users with no coding experience to create functional applications within minutes using simple local language instructions. The other is an AI comic book creator that allows individuals with no artistic training to transform African oral traditions and original stories into comic and manga format.
This partnership combines Cassava's secure, scalable cloud capabilities and GPU-as-a-Service infrastructure with Gebeya's focus on unlocking creativity at scale. The partnership aims to make artificial intelligence more accessible, culturally relevant and technologically sovereign across the continent, the partners said.
Commenting on the partnership, Ahmed El Beheiri, CEO of Cassava AI, said Africa's digital future should be built by the continent and Africans. He said the collaboration with Gebeya aims to give young creators, entrepreneurs and storytellers access to advanced AI tools, while also supporting sovereign innovation where African ideas are developed and protected locally before being scaled up globally. He added that the initiative is expected to discover local talent and contribute to a more inclusive digital economy.
The main focus of this partnership is the joint development of culturally relevant large-scale language models and AI tools. All data processing and model training will be done within Africa using Cassava's infrastructure. This is a move designed to ensure data sovereignty, reduce latency, and comply with local regulatory requirements.
Gebeya CEO and co-founder Amadou Daffe described the initiative as part of the company's broader mission to build the operating system for Africa's digital economy. He explained that Gebeya Dala aims to demonstrate that building applications and creating visual stories no longer requires specialized technical or artistic expertise. By providing accessible production tools, the platform said it aims to empower a wide range of users, from students and traders to storytellers in cities such as Dakar, Nairobi and Lagos, and stimulate a continent-wide wave of innovation.
Beyond product development, the partnership also includes a joint go-to-market strategy to promote Gebeya Dara to students, entrepreneurs and creators across Africa.
