Case filed against Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi over fake AI video

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police has registered a case over a fake AI-generated video that falsely depicts Congress leader and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi.

The complaint was filed by Mr. Mohammed Irfan Khan, managing member of AIMIM social media team.

Certain social media accounts allegedly posted fabricated videos aimed at spreading misinformation, hurting sentiments and creating disharmony.

Based on the complaint, the case was registered under the Information Technology Act, 2008 and relevant sections of the People's Republic of India Act (BNS).

Bill to regulate deepfakes to be tabled in Sabah

Meanwhile, a private member's bill calling for a clear legal framework for regulating deepfakes has been submitted to parliament.

The Deepfakes Regulation Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha by Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde on Friday, aims to protect the public by requiring the prior consent of individuals to appear in deepfake content.

The bill also lists penalties for criminals who create or distribute deepfake content with malicious intent.
