If you’re one of those people who never uses AI, you might want to sit down and watch this latest music video from filmmaker and AI artist Paul Trillo.
“The Most Perfect Perfect People,” set as a short music video about music artist Poppy, claims to be the first AI movie “based on real events,” but it raises a lot of uncomfortable questions about authenticity.
But don’t express your feelings. You should be the judge.
Here’s what we can share about this video and Trillo’s own thoughts on creating this important and self-conscious project.
the most perfect and perfect person
Interestingly, the gist of this video is that music artist Poppy entrusts her voice to an AI clone of herself while entrusting her voice to an AI clone of herself. The premise is that this AI clone has been trained and perfectly fused with every word Poppy has ever spoken, written, or sung.
Director Paul Trillo, a filmmaker and artist who explores the AI space, describes the project as follows:
“AI threatens to not only take away jobs, but also artists’ voices. We are risking a true homogenization of culture. Bots create content for bots. Originality is at stake. In a sense, we have allowed ourselves to become bots. We are bots. When we log on to social media, we code-switch…presenting one identity online and acting in a different way offline. We’re letting these platforms and technologies change the way we speak.” — Paul Trillo.
The film’s visuals employ several hybrid live-action AI VFX techniques, including traditional matte painting and rotoscoping work, as well as various AI visual effects and more experimental transition and asset creation.

How do you determine authenticity?
Again, I’ll let you decide how you feel about this project and what the director and artists are putting out in terms of authenticity and artificiality. To Trillo’s credit, he claims he wants the film to at least “seem to be overtly critical of AI.”
But he also admits that he wanted the film to be “a little more nuanced than that, because I believe there are obvious benefits as long as there’s a human at the helm.”
