ByteDance on Thursday confirmed it will be rolling out a new audio and video model, Dreamina Seedance 2.0, on its editing platform CapCut. According to the company, this model allows creators to draft, edit, and sync video and audio content using prompts, images, or reference videos.
The phased rollout will begin with CapCut users in Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. More markets will be added over time.
News of this development comes after recent reports that the model’s global rollout will be temporarily suspended to address intellectual property issues that have drawn criticism from Hollywood over alleged copyright infringement. This may explain the limited number of markets where this model is available through CapCut. In China, this model is available to users of ByteDance’s Jianying app.

According to ByteDance, Dreamina Seedance 2.0 works without reference images, even if the creator only uses a few words to describe the scene in their head. CapCut also excels at rendering realistic textures, movement, and lighting across a variety of visual perspectives and angles, and can be used to edit, enhance, and modify creators’ own footage, the company says.
ByteDance also noted that Dreamina Seedance 2.0 can be used for a wide range of content where AI video models have historically faced challenges, including videos with cooking recipes, fitness tutorials, business or product overviews, and content focused on motion and action. At launch, this model supports clips up to 15 seconds in length in six aspect ratios.
ByteDance also said that due to added safety restrictions, this model does not have the ability to create videos from images or videos that include real faces. CapCut also blocks the use of unauthorized generation of intellectual property. Content created by models also includes an invisible watermark that helps identify model-created content when shared outside the platform. This is useful for removal requests from copyright holders if the model allows copyrighted content to pass through.

At CapCut, Dreamina Seedance 2.0 will be deployed in various areas including editing features such as AI video and generation tools such as Video Studio. It will also be introduced to ByteDance’s AI generation platform “Dreamina” and marketing platform “Pippit.”
This comes on the heels of OpenAI shutting down its artificial intelligence video generation app, Sora, less than two years after its launch. The maker of ChatGPT also announced that it is ending its $1 billion partnership with Disney. The move is reportedly part of OpenAI’s efforts to focus its business on more profitable areas, such as coding tools and enterprise customers.
