Many companies are using AI to modernize their systems, and the media sector is gradually changing its attitude towards using AI for work.
Media companies also say there is no need to disclose the use of AI
AI is creating friction in the industry because it is not just the content used to train these systems, but also how they are used at any level. The media sector has seen some of these effects in the evolving use of AI tools, and now publications have approved the use of technology to draft stories for journalists.
Business Insider is a company reportedly allowing writers to use AI to draft stories, but it's fine to not reveal the use of those stories.
Use AI for everything
Report by situationquote BargeClaims Business Insider (BI) is one of the first media entities to internally share changes to guidelines that are part of the increasing use of AI among journalists. Notes cited in the report say that BI writers can use AI “as well as other tools” and even do image editing and story research.
However, Media House wants to make sure that the ultimate work from the writers belongs to them, not that it is completely constructed and written by AI. More importantly, stories drafted by journalists using AI are responsible for signed content. This seems to be a standard procedure.
Media with AI: Not ideal
The media industry not only views AI as an enemy, but also because its integration is gradually killing traffic bases. The fact that BI is happy to let journalists use AI stories suggests that the industry is happy to be friends with its enemies, at least to extend and mature its own system.
However, these trades and guidelines raise further concerns about the accuracy and legitimacy of the narrative issued by journalists, especially when AI tends to be hallucinated and in many ways have tended to have created dangerous stories. Media House recently appointed the chief of the AI Newsroom, and its parent company is working with Openai and Microsoft to license AI training content.
