According to a recent report by BCG and IT industry peak body Nasscom, the Indian AI market is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 25-35 percent and is projected to reach approximately US$17 billion by 2027.

India has seen a surge in interest and demand for Machine Learning (ML) roles in recent years. The explosion of data and growing need for automation and intelligent decision-making has led to a rapid rise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ML roles. According to a study by Amazon Web Services titled “Accelerating AI Skills: Preparing the Asia Pacific Workforce for Future Jobs”, the speed at which the AI ​​transformation is happening in India is astounding. Nearly all employers (99%) expect their companies to become AI-driven organizations by 2028.

Most employers (97%) believe that finance will be the biggest beneficiary, but IT (96%), research and development (96%), sales and marketing (96%), business operations (95%), HR (94%) and legal (92%) also expect to derive significant value from AI.

The changing landscape of education delivery

Imarticus Learning's Data Science Education Report 2023 predicts that the data science education sector in India will reach $1.391 billion by 2028, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 57.52%. This surge will be in tandem with the growth of the online education sector, which is expected to grow from $76.2 million to $533.69 million.

Educational institutions are realizing the importance of ML curriculum beyond computer science and engineering, which have limited ML-related courses. Educational institutions are now introducing comprehensive ML programs and research opportunities. Online platforms and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are playing a key role in breaking down geographical barriers and providing self-paced learning opportunities.

The need for specialized skillsets and depth of machine learning capabilities
