Amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Canada after the U.S. men’s hockey team won the gold medal in overtime, one of the players has distanced himself from a recent TikTok video. The White House released a document using artificial intelligence in which Canadians are said to have spoken on behalf of the players.

The video reportedly features Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk’s name, but the caption says the material was “generated with artificial intelligence” and compiled from footage of his press conferences. The player himself said that he does not support this video.

“They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach the maple syrup eaters a lesson.”

“This is obviously fake. It’s not my voice and my lips aren’t moving.”

“I do not control any of these accounts and these words will never leave my mouth,” he added, expressing his displeasure with the publication.

According to CNN, the White House received a request for comment on Tkachuk’s remarks and the publication itself. It also notes that Trump has made targeted mockery of Canada in the past regarding its status as the 51st state, and the TikTok video is an example of further criticism from official sources.
