The official X-handle of the Assam unit of Bharatiya Janata Party shared an AI-generated video of Islamophobia that caused massive outrage on Monday.
The video portrays Muslims as people seizing government-owned land throughout the state. The video, titled “Assam without BJP,” depicts a large number of Muslims occupying various locations such as Guwahati Airport, Assam Langal, towns and stadiums. It also marks the Congress Party as a party linked to Pakistan by featuring Lal Gandhi standing next to Pakistan.
Social media users expressed shock and questioned whether the video posting was intended to disrupt community harmony and induce violence against Muslims, particularly in Assam.
Several critics denounced the video, saying the post is making Muslims worse and brave.
Journalists, activists and political analysts also denounced the BJP to normalize the politics of hate.
One of the users, Tanpreet Sehgal, wrote to X:
Dr. Aratrica Ganguly said, “I hate official party pages that openly spread to incite hate and community misinformation. It's no wonder that Indians overseas are treated the same way as they abuse and slander their citizens.” Several others pointed out that the party is only active in Hindu Muslim politics.
Similar slanderous content has been previously published by the BJP's Jharkhand unit and features Muslim figures taking over people's homes.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accused Congress of supporting “anti-state” and “infringers” to protect the voting banks. In a similar hate speech submitted by Prime Minister Assam Biswa Salma, who had allegedly outweighed Hindus by 2041, he added that most Muslims in Assam are illegal settlers.
