Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Susmit Patra on Tuesday described artificial intelligence (AI) as a “game changer” at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, highlighting its potential to transform governance, health, education, rural development and innovation.

Speaking at the summit, Patra highlighted the growing enthusiasm among young professionals and stressed the importance of robust dialogue around AI regulation, policy and law.

“Global India AI Summit is very important to showcase not only India but also the Global South. Artificial intelligence and its various applications will leave an indelible mark not only in this century but also in the future,” Patra told ANI.

Patra elaborated on the multi-sectoral impact of AI, citing its potential in governance, agriculture, healthcare, education, research and development, trade, commerce and industry.

“We have seen tremendous energy among young people… There is a lot of discussion going on around AI regulations, laws and policies. We believe that in the coming years, AI will transform key areas of governance… AI can do predictive analysis and will be able to identify seasonal rainfall anomalies, which will help improve our irrigation mechanisms. “It will enable predictive analysis…On the education front, AI will have a huge impact. From research and R&D and innovation, to trade and commerce and industry, to science and technology, especially the Panchayati Raj mechanism, AI will further strengthen funding convergence and fiscal discipline, delivering more meaningful government projects at the panchayati level to improve outcomes and multipliers,” he said.
