WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) – Microsoft, Meta, Google and Apple were among the 13 companies that received warnings from a bipartisan group of state attorneys general, a letter said. State leaders said the chatbot's “delusional output” may violate state law.
The letter was made public on Wednesday. Dozens of attorneys general said chatbots “enhance users' delusions” and pose mental health risks to children and adults. They pointed to media reports in which teenagers confided in AI chatbots about their suicide plans. They called on companies to allow independent audits of their products, adding that state and federal regulators should be able to review them.

Microsoft and Google declined to comment on the letter. Meta and Apple did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
States are embroiled in a battle with the U.S. government over AI regulation. The Trump administration is seeking to prohibit states from passing their own laws governing the technology. Dozens of state attorneys general from both parties pushed back, calling on legislative leaders to reject the ban.
