BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) — Beijing is leading Chinese cities in the number of registered artificial intelligence (AI) models, Mayor Yin Yong said Sunday while delivering a government work report at the annual meeting of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress.

“The number of large-scale AI models registered and launched in Beijing consistently ranks among the top in the nation,” Yin said, highlighting the city’s significant progress in developing its core AI ecosystem, including establishing a base of AI pilot applications in fields such as healthcare, manufacturing, and scientific research.

The report pointed out that the added value of Beijing’s digital economy will increase by 8.7% year-on-year in 2025.

According to the “Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry White Paper (2025)” released by the City Science Committee on November 29, 2025, more than 2,500 AI companies are based in Beijing, and 183 companies have registered large-scale AI models, the most of any city in China.

The white paper provides preliminary estimates suggesting that the total scale of the Chinese government’s AI industry will exceed 450 billion yuan (approximately 64.6 billion US dollars) in 2025, after the core AI industry reached 215.2 billion yuan in the first half of this year, an increase of 25.3% year-on-year.

Commercial models developed by leading Beijing-based companies, such as Baidu’s Ernie, ByteDance’s Doubao, Zhipu AI’s GLM, and Moonshot AI’s Kim, offer top-level performance on par with major international standards.
