In his statement regarding X, externalMr Callaghan said he had made a video about the Billericay Conservative Party.
Regarding the anti-Semitic content, he said: “I was completely unaware of it at the time I posted the video and, very unfortunately, I did not review the video thoroughly before posting it.”
“As soon as I became aware of the anti-Semitism in the lyrics, I immediately deleted the post.
“Anti-Semitism has no place in our society and we deeply apologize for unknowingly sharing something containing anti-Semitic content.
“If I had known, I would never have posted it, and I admit I should have been more careful with my use of AI.
“I have learned from this mistake and will be more careful in the future.”
His video included the caption: “If Reform UK wins enough seats and returns to power, Billericay Conservatives will run Basildon Council again within 35 days.”
Elections to Basildon Council will be held on May 7th.
Jackson came under fire for the lyrics of the original version of “They Don’t Care About Us” in 1995.
At the time, the singer apologized, stating that he had intended to show racist hatred before re-recording the song and changing the lyrics.
