AWS invests $100 million in new generative AI program

AWS introduced a new generative AI program that connects customers with AI and machine learning experts.

AWS launched the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center on Thursday. The cloud provider has invested $100 million in the program for AWS customers.

Based on the center’s model, Amazon technical experts will meet with business leaders from participating organizations to understand their vision and business priorities, AWS said. AWS and the customer then decide on practical applications of generative AI that can significantly improve how users run their businesses.

AWS data scientists also work with customers to build, extend, and commercialize new products.

Customers participating in the program will have access to AWS-generated AI services such as Amazon CodeWhisperer, a coding assistant service, and Amazon Bedrock, a managed service that includes foundational models from startups such as AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Stability AI, and Amazon. will be base model. Customers can also use Amazon SageMaker to train, build, and deploy models.

Help companies scale up

AWS’ Innovation Center was established as the generative AI market has grown exponentially over the past seven months. With its rapid growth and growing interest from enterprises, major cloud providers, including Microsoft and Google, are racing to prove generative AI technology is applicable and safe for enterprises.

According to Gartner analyst Whit Andrews, programs like the Innovation Center are helping companies leverage the data held by tech giants such as AWS to scale their own capabilities.

“Currently, AI requires massive scale in terms of the data available to create artificial intelligence elements. ‘ said Andrews.

This increasing scale (exemplified by applications such as large-scale customer service contact centers) will increasingly rely on hyperscalers such as AWS, Google, and Microsoft to help companies apply generative AI to their business processes. means that you are

Plus, many companies are already working with tech giants’ cloud platforms and other technologies, so they can trust the results they get, Andrews added.

However, a challenge that organizations working with either provider may face is how to effectively use the technology and expertise of the technology giant.

“Will they make the right decisions with it?” Andrews continued.

sell directly to buyers

For AWS, programs like Innovation Center help us continue to sell directly to buyers.

“They are very happy with the direct delivery from the buyer to the consumer,” says Andrews. “Now what you’re seeing here is Amazon saying, ‘You can work directly with us. We’ll facilitate it without you having to invest in a third party.’ That is.”

He said Amazon wants to appear as a company focused on openness and ease of use.

However, while AWS is effectively developing its own consulting services, it also works with large consulting and system integrator companies such as Accenture.

On June 21, Accenture announced that it is working with AWS to help clients extract value from large-scale language models and generative AI.

AWS has already started working with some companies under another innovation program launched in April.

The tech giant uses AWS services to build natural language generation capabilities with media conglomerate Fox Corporation, for example.

Fox Sports broadcasters are using AI-generated content to tell better stories, according to Sri Elaprolu, Senior Machine Learning Leader at AWS.

AWS also said it is working with customers in healthcare, life sciences, and other media and entertainment industries to demonstrate how generative AI can be applied to their own use cases.

“We can only imagine what our customers are going to do with this technology,” Elaprol said. “This is a big generational shift in technology, and we’re looking forward to it.”

Companies do not have to pay any additional costs to participate in the Generative AI Innovation Program.
