Sharad Devarajan and Dr. Mark Sager have launched FaiBLE Media Inc., a Silicon Valley startup focused on fusing artificial intelligence and storytelling to develop new narrative technologies and unlock scientific breakthroughs in creative expression. The company will be officially announced at the AETHER Summit in Singapore on January 16th.
The Palo Alto-based company has Devarajan, an award-winning creator and producer, as CEO and Sagar, a two-time Academy Award-winning engineer and virtual presence AI pioneer, as chief AI officer. Sagar built innovative facial beauty systems for “King Kong” and “Avatar,” and won two Academy Awards for scientific and technical achievement.
FaiBLE’s mission is focused on understanding the fundamental structures that drive narrative resonance with audiences and building tools and experiences based on those insights. The company describes its long-term research initiative as the “AlphaFold of storytelling,” similar to how AlphaFold deciphers protein folding patterns by revealing hidden biological structures.
“Throughout history, humans have stumbled across fundamental and creative scientific discoveries every few centuries. If you went back 2,000 years and drew an image in linear perspective, it would have felt like magic to people back then,” Devarajan said. “From musical scales to the Hero’s Journey, all great creators strive to understand the science of their craft. Thanks to AI, we can now find them on purpose rather than by accident. FaiBLE is dedicated to uncovering the next wave of these transcendent tools to spark a new creative renaissance.”
Mr. Devarajan is an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School, where he has taught courses on artificial intelligence and disruptive technologies for nearly a decade. He founded Graphic India, India’s leading comic book and animation company, and created The Legend of Hanuman, one of the most successful animated series in Indian history.
Sagar went on to pioneer AI-powered virtual beings, including the Baby X project, which explores biologically-inspired neural system models for autonomous animated agents.
“The intersection of AI and storytelling is one of the most exciting frontiers in technology and art,” said Sagar. “We will explore the most effective mechanisms by which stories create meaning, evoke emotion, and become timeless. These are artistic questions as well as scientific questions, and AI gives us unprecedented tools to explore them.”
Key focuses include the development of Quantum Stories, a technology that enables dynamic story worlds rather than fixed linear narratives. The platform allows viewers to explore their own narrative paths through characters, timelines, and perspectives while AI maintains consistency and canonical integrity throughout the experience.
“Quantum Stories represents a fundamental shift in how the storytelling canon is formed,” Sagar said. “In traditional media, the canon is static and created top-down. In Quantum Stories, the canon is alive and continually expands while maintaining internal consistency. This is an AI We believe this represents an entirely new storytelling opportunity that can expand a creator’s vision a thousand times.”No human writer’s room or branching narrative system could maintain coherence across a vast number of individual storylines.
FaiBLE sees India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America as natural forerunners for these new storytelling forms, citing these regions’ vast storytelling traditions, large audiences, and readiness to embrace innovative media.
“We believe the next generation of iconic story experiences and formats will come from creators who are willing to experiment, innovate, and break new ground,” Devarajan said. “That spirit of creative risk-taking is at the heart of everything we are building at FaiBLE.”
The company was founded in Graphic India and maintains creative and production links across India and other global markets. FaiBLE is currently building a multidisciplinary team spanning storytelling, animation, technology, and AI research.
The AETHER Summit, to be held at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands from January 15-16, is an invitation-only global forum hosted by Media Partners Asia that brings together leaders in artificial intelligence, immersive and generative technologies, connectivity and infrastructure, creativity and content, and global capital.
