This announcement coincides with EssilorLuxottica recently renewing its eyewear license agreement with Prada for a 10-year period. Meta has already partnered with EssilorLuxottica to develop Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses that integrate cameras, microphones, speakers, and the Meta AI assistant.
Some have speculated that this could be a hint at future AI eyewear from luxury brands, but that’s just speculation.

Meta has strong adoption of AI eyewear. According to TechCrunch, the company sold more than 7 million AI glasses in 2025, primarily through Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta models.
