Apple plans to integrate AI features into upcoming M4 Mac models: report

AI For Business

Apple is reportedly transforming its Mac lineup as it approaches production of its M4 computer processor with cutting-edge AI processing capabilities. The tech giant plans to include the advanced technology in all of its Mac models, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The reported rollout is scheduled for late this year or early next year, targeting a variety of updated devices. These include the new iMac, the low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, the high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and the Mac mini.

As the PC industry faces a post-pandemic recession due to a surge in demand for remote work and learning solutions, the introduction of these powerful chips heralds a possible resurgence. Major companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, and Nvidia are also gearing up to launch chips tailored for AI tasks, aiming to meet evolving consumer needs.

Apple's strategy is focused on leveraging the M4 chip's AI processing power, which integrates seamlessly with future macOS updates. The company has not yet commented on the report, but expectations are high ahead of its annual developer conference in June.

The introduction of the M4 chip marks a strategic move to reignite interest in the Mac ecosystem, as Apple's Mac sales have declined by 27% in its most recent fiscal year. The M3 chip and accompanying MacBook Pro and iMac models, announced last October, laid the foundation for future technological leaps.
