Apple, like many companies, may be grappling with what the latest advances in AI are and should be playing in their business. But only one Apple teeth What we are proud of is the fact that we want to introduce more generative AI talent into our business.
The Cupertino company posted at least a dozen job ads on its job page for a generative AI expert. Specifically, they are looking for machine learning specialists in the field who are “passionate about building extraordinary autonomous systems.” Job ads (some of which appear to cover the same role, or are looking for multiple applicants) first began posting on April 27, with the latest being posted earlier this week. It was published.
The job postings are announced amid various signals from the company around generative AI. During its second-quarter earnings call earlier this month, Chief Executive Tim Cook declined to give specific answers to questions about what the company is doing in this space, though he also denied it. I didn’t. Generative AI is “very interesting,” he said, but Apple will be “cautious and thoughtful” in its approach. And yesterday, the WSJ reported that the company had begun restricting some employees from using OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other externally generated AI tools over concerns that proprietary data would be leaked through the platform.
These restrictions are not new or unique to Apple. Many companies, both tech and non-tech, have similar restrictions.Several believe Apple had that policy in place for some time.
However, more third-party apps are introducing elements of generative AI, and although OpenAI released its own ChatGPT iOS app just yesterday, the WSJ reports that Apple is working on its own generative AI product. reportedly working on it. Hiring more generative AI professionals could serve either or both of these ends.
We reached out to Apple earlier this week for comment on the job posting, but have yet to hear back.
Recruitment is done with teams that include Integrated Systems Experience, Input Experience NLP, Machine Learning R&D, and Technology Development groups across San Diego, Bay Area, and Seattle.
Some of the roles are specifically focused on visual generative AI applications, with machine learning experts describing “visual generative enhancements that power applications across computational photography, image and video editing, and 3D shape and motion reconstruction. You can work on modeling. [and] Avatar generation. ”
As mentioned, it’s unclear what exactly these recruits will be working on, whether it’s new products or revamping existing products, but the move to bring more generative AI talent to Apple is no less surprising. It’s not that.
The company pioneered the world of consumer AI applications with the launch of the Siri voice assistant on the iPhone in 2011, and over the years has been one of the largest technology companies to source and recruit AI talent from other companies and companies. had a reputation as Some come directly from start-ups, sometimes from university labs and PhD projects.
But while Apple has continued to build and enhance how it applies AI, it’s recently been seen as lagging behind the latest wave of technology, along with other Leviathans such as Google and Amazon. Led by companies like OpenAI, Midjourney and Stability.AI (backed by Microsoft) and their generative AI advances, this wave takes simple verbal cues and transforms them into vast amounts of combined information. Returns a detailed response based on
Now we’ve seen a lot of moves for those Leviathan’s to catch up. In addition to the wave of AI news from Google’s announcement of Bard and the big I/O developer event, a March article in the New York Times reported that Apple is holding an internal He explained in detail how the event was held. It runs on “language generation concepts”, large language models, and other AI tools.
Apple is Apple and they are definitely trying to bring their own approach. For example, much of the work we’ve done in visual AI technologies so far has focused on processing and privacy on the device, and building developer tools to help with that.
Apple will be hosting a developer-focused WWDC event next month, and people will be watching to see if the company makes any announcements there on the generative AI front. Along with the forthcoming launch of new software for iPhone and iPad, many are predicting that details about his long-awaited AR/VR headset will finally be revealed as well.
