Apple announced its iPhone 17 lineup on Tuesday. It features the thinnest smartphone ever. This works to prove that the tech giant can maintain the pace of the generated AI race.
Silicon Valley Powerhouse held its annual iPhone release event. The White House is pushing its companies to reduce their dependence on China's manufacturing industry.
In addition to these challenges, the company faces headwinds from President Donald Trump's high tariff policies. Apple's shares have fallen more than 3% since Republicans took office in January.
Against this background, Apple is betting on products that customers want to buy on a large number of iPhones with trends that have kept their devices longer before they upgrade.

To revitalize the brand, Apple has introduced the iPhone 17 Air.
At just 5.6mm thick (less than a quarter inch), the $999 device features Apple's new A19 Pro processor (the most powerful iPhone chip ever), which promises all-day battery life with up to 40 hours of video playback.
AIR will be joining Apple's more standard lineup, including the company's most expensive and best-performing model, the Premium iPhone Pro 17.
While all new devices incorporate generative AI technology, Apple has made no major announcements about expanding AI capabilities beyond an update to existing features in its Apple Intelligence suite.
The company's AI Push has been struggling to gain traction since launching Apple Intelligence late last year. Users are particularly disappointed with the improvements in Siri. This remains surprisingly basic despite years of promise.
Apple reportedly plans to integrate AI into online search next year and overhaul Siri, but the company has not reviewed these reports.
Tech Giant is also said to be partnering with Google to leverage its search and AI expertise.
“To truly differentiate and suck the competition, Apple needs to crack AI as a new contextual user interface on its device,” Forrester analyst Thomas Husson said in a memo.
“It takes time to implement such an ambitious AI strategy. Without the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027, it won't happen until next year at most,” he added.
Pivot on iPhone Air
Industry analysts consider the iPhone Air a strategic pivot, and Apple has placed an ultra-thin design rather than a larger screen as a new premium selling point.
The Super Slim Profile could also pave the way for Apple's long-term folding iPhone, which is expected as soon as next year. Samsung and Huawei in China already offer foldable smartphones.
However, engineering such thin devices presents the challenges of higher production costs and reducing battery space, but Apple claims the 24-hour battery life of the iPhone 17 air when fully charged.
Despite tariffs that increase production costs, Apple has not changed the price of the iPhone from its comparable models last year. This is a move that could narrow down the profit margin.
Cook said in July that Trump's tariffs cost Apple $800 million in the last quarter, with an estimated $1.1 billion impact in the quarter.
Apple's shares fell 1.40% after pricing details were announced. It reflects concerns about investors' ability to maintain return.
Apple has also introduced the AirPods Pro 3. It features enhanced noise cancellation and real-time translation capabilities, along with the Apple Watch Series 11, which includes 5G connectivity, extended battery life and cardiac health monitoring capabilities.
