Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s AI assistant that handles simple tasks on your computer, is now available to anyone with a $20/month Pro subscription. Anthropic launched Cowork as an exclusive feature for Max subscribers. Max subscribers pay a minimum of $100 per month for more use of Claude’s expensive inference models and early access to experimental features. Claude Cowork is currently available at a lower price, but Anthropic says that “Pro users may reach usage limits sooner than Max users.”
Like other AI agents, Claude Cowork’s novelty is its ability to work independently. If you have the macOS Claude app and a Pro subscription, you can tell Claude Cowork to perform tasks on your local computer, such as creating documents or organizing folders based on files you save. This feature is an evolution of Claude Code, Anthropic’s AI coding agent, which also works with other apps and the web using connectors and the Claude Chrome plugin.
As part of this expansion rollout, Anthropic includes several fixes inspired by early user feedback. You can now rename sessions (“tasks” in Claude app parlance) with Claude Cowork, and the company says the AI assistant offers better file format previews, more reliable use of connectors to other apps, and confirmation messages before deleting files.
Coding agents are at the top of the list of AI applications that have really taken off in the last year, so it makes sense for Anthropic to apply what it learned with Claude Code to a collection of more common computer tasks. Claude Cowork is still limited to paid subscribers on macOS and Anthropic, but assuming the AI agent remains popular, it wouldn’t be surprising if the company brought it to other platforms.
