On another day, technology companies announced new pledges to invest billions of dollars in U.S. AI data centers.
Anthropic announced Wednesday it will invest $50 million in U.S. AI infrastructure, starting with custom-built data centers in Texas and New York.
The company said the projects will create 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 construction jobs, with the site expected to be operational in 2026.
“We are moving closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and help solve complex problems in ways never before possible. To realize that potential, we need an infrastructure that can support continued development at the front lines,” Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in a statement. “These sites will help build more capable AI systems that can fuel these breakthroughs while creating American jobs.”
Anthropic is just the latest technology company to announce a significant investment in U.S. infrastructure, although it pales in comparison to investments by other tech giants.
Earlier this month, Meta announced a $600 billion investment to “support AI technology, infrastructure, and workforce expansion” in the U.S., corroborating figures that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg surfaced at a dinner with President Donald Trump and other tech CEOs.
And in August, Apple announced it would invest an additional $100 million in U.S. infrastructure, bringing the company’s total investment to $600 billion.
This remains a significant investment for Anthropic, which has quickly become one of the world’s most valuable startups despite being less than five years old. Business Insider previously reported that Google is in early talks to increase its investment in Anthropic, which could value the AI startup at more than $350 million.
This comes as Anthropic battles rival OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT, for supremacy in the AI race. Anthropic is best known for its Claude large-scale language model and chatbot.
Some tech companies are trying to align with the Trump administration on AI, which in July announced an AI action plan that emphasizes rapid development of data centers to counter China.
Anthropic said in an announcement Wednesday that the new $50 million investment will “help advance the Trump Administration’s AI Action Plan goals to maintain U.S. AI leadership and strengthen the nation’s technology infrastructure.”
