AMD Acquires Silo AI to Get Ahead in AI Race

Global chipmaker AMD is expanding into the world of AI with the acquisition of Silo AI, Europe's largest private AI lab.

The agreement between the two companies is valued at approximately $665 million and represents a significant moment for AMD in its drive to develop end-to-end solutions based on open standards.

The Silo AI team is comprised of world-leading AI scientists and engineers with extensive experience in developing customized AI models. Similarly, the company's platforms and solutions power leading enterprises across cloud, embedded and endpoint computing markets. The company's CEO and co-founder, Peter Sarlin, will continue to lead Silo AI as part of the AMD AI group, reporting to Vamsi Boppana, senior vice president at AMD.

The acquisition by AMD is expected to close in the second half of 2024.

Deploying AI at scale

Based in Helsinki, Finland, Silo AI promotes end-to-end AI solutions that help customers quickly and easily integrate AI into their products and operations, with operations across Europe and North America. The company currently produces open source multilingual LLMs on AMD platforms such as Poro and Viking, in addition to the SiloGen model platform.
