Amazon has announced an update to its streaming platform Prime Video that introduces a personalized recommendation feed powered by generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) and new features. The revamped interface makes it easier to discover content to watch and streamlines the process, at no additional cost to your membership to the platform. The improvements are being rolled out broadly and will be available across all devices in the coming days.

A new navigation bar has been introduced with options for Home, Movies, TV Shows, Live TV, and add-on subscriptions for Prime Video Channels. The Hero Rotator below the navigation bar displays the content that users can watch and rent with their subscription. Deals for Prime members are also displayed here. Users can directly play, rent, or subscribe to the content.

In addition to browsing and signing up, users can manage their active add-on subscriptions from the navigation bar. There are over 20 add-on subscriptions available to users in India, which can be accessed by selecting “Subscriptions.”

In addition to the content you subscribe to, users will get content recommendations based on their personal preferences and viewing history. They can also find subscription deals from third-party services all in one place. Prime Video clearly distinguishes between what's included in the paid membership and what costs extra: if a content title has a yellow bag icon, users will need to pay extra.

Generative AI is used to provide personalization features to users. Content summaries are simplified using large-scale language models (LLMs). To achieve this, Prime Video uses Amazon Bedrock, an Amazon Web Service.

Improvements also include new animations, smoother page transitions and zoom effects. Video content will play in a hero rotator when using the device in the living room while the user decides what to watch. Plus, Live TV will automatically play recommended 24/7 stations.
