Amazon is preparing to develop and implement a new “search” feature for its online web store with a ChatGPT-like interface.
The two job postings, first spotted by Bloomberg, detail the company’s plans, and state in clear terms that it intends to reinvent the search feature that Amazon has provided for years.
The company states in its job posting for “Senior Technical Program Manager”:
“We are on a new, AI-first effort to rebuild and reinvent the way we search using next-generation deep learning techniques at very large scale.”
Salaries for this position require at least seven years of experience working directly with the engineering team and range from $119,000 to $231,400 per year depending on the applicant’s location.
The second job listing is for a “Senior SDE, Machine Learning (ML), Amazon Search” position that pays between $134,500 and $261,500 per year, with more details added. The initiative is described as a “once-in-a-generation transformation in search,” which the company plans to roll out to customers soon.
“We are reimagining Amazon search with an interactive conversational experience that helps you find answers to your product questions, perform product comparisons, and receive personalized product suggestions to help you We make it easy for you to find the product that best fits your needs.”
Taken together, these posts reveal that the company plans to implement high-level changes to how the search feature works.

It’s also worth noting that Amazon recently debuted its own “Bedrock” artificial intelligence (AI) foundational model. Bedrock was designed as a “serverless” AI service that allows customers to build their own ChatGPT-like models.
Amazon’s own chatbot service “Titan” was announced with Bedrock. The company’s vice president, Bratin Saha, told reporters that Amazon uses a “tweaked version” of Titan to display search results on its homepage. Not sure if this is related to recent job offers. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
The timing of these announcements is not surprising. Since OpenAI launched its ChatGPT service in March, the generative AI field has moved rapidly.
So far, aggressive growth seems to be paying off. Generative AI techniques seem to be impacting almost every sector, from journalism, where several media outlets are experimenting with AI-generated coverage, to cryptocurrencies and blockchain. In the latter area, almost all areas of cryptocurrency and blockchain development, trading, and community interaction are being influenced by generative AI.
