Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says artificial intelligence will “change” the way work is done, and expects the company's total workforce will be reduced as a result.
Jassy shared a message with employees on Tuesday.
“As we deploy more generative AI and agents, we should change the way we work,” he said.
“There will be fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of work. It will be difficult to know exactly where this will go online over time, but over the next few years, this will likely reduce the total workforce of a company, as it will provide greater efficiency through widespread use of AI across AI.”

Jassy said, “We've urged Amazon employees to become interested in AI, educate themselves, attend workshops, get trained, use AI, experiment with AI whenever possible, and get involved in team brainstorming to find ways to be faster and broader for our customers and get more accomplished with the Scrappieer team.”
He says those who embrace change will be “highly influential and will be well-placed to help reinvent the company.”

The CEO believes generative AI will make customers' lives “better and easier,” and mentions the deployment of the next generation of “Alexa+” “personal assistants.”
Amazon praises AI's shopping assistant, “lens,” “for buying,” recommended sizes, AI seller services and AI advertising tools, Jassy said.

“Today, we have over 1,000 generative AI services ongoing or building, but at our scale, it's just a small part of what's ultimately built,” the CEO said.
